Global Windows Azure Bootcamp in Nepal

Glad that Global Windows Azure Bootcamp (GWAB) was successfully held in 5 cities in Nepal. These cities include: Kathmandu, Biratnagar, Birgunj, Chitwan and Lumbini. Thanks to Microsoft Innovation Center Nepal who managed the resource persons for the GWAB ! Also, all thanks to local partners in the various cities who hosted the events with some 500+ participants in total. It was on April 27th, 2013, as Windows Azure bootcamps was a unique event that actually happened on more than 100 locations around the globe!

Windows Azure is a cloud computing platform and infrastructure, created by Microsoft, for building, deploying and managing applications and services through a global network of Microsoft-managed datacenters. It provides both platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) services and supports many different programming languages, tools and frameworks, including both Microsoft-specific and third-party software and systems.

I was in Biratnagar to run the Global Windows Azure Bootcamp session while the cities Chitwan, Kathmandu, Birgunj and Lumbini were handled by Allen Tuladhar, Nairisha Shrestha, Mahesh Dahal and Deepankar Udaya respectively. It was an exciting experience for me ( I guess for others too!) to run a session that was happening globally at the same time on the same day.

We ran 2 types of camp for Windows Azure; one aimed at the developer and one aimed at the IT Pro. The developer camp concentrated on the Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) features of Windows Azure. Mostly this means Windows Azure Cloud Services, Windows Azure Storage, Windows Azure Active Directory Access Control Service, Windows Azure Service Bus and Windows Azure SQL DB, and Windows Azure Websites. While the IT Pro camp concentrated on the Infrastructure-as-a-Service features; Virtual Machines and Virtual Networks. As an IT Pro, I personally took over Biratnagar session with Windows Azure IT Pro topics along with initial introduction to Microsoft Innovation Center Nepal and its programs and innovative initiatives.

The events were one-day free to attend aimed at IT and engineering students, IT Pros and technology enthusiasts. To make the session more interesting, Free Windows Azure tokens, Windows 8 DVDs, Windows Server books and books on careers ideas from Microsoft were distributed to some lucky participants.

Before closing, once again thank you local organizers, sponsors and attendees!
