Installing Windows Server 2012

Windows Server 2012 is the latest edition of Microsoft’s server operating system and with it comes a lot of new features with a major emphasis on Cloud integration.

This blog post is all about the first look in Installing a Windows 2012 Server and it’s just the beginning of diving into Windows environment. Later in my blogs, I will also work on promoting the server as the first domain controller in a new forest.

The installation procedure has not changed much in comparison to earlier version, Windows Server 2008 R2.

So, lets begin with the installation. The screenshots can be seen below as we insert a bootable media in the drive.

Click <Install Now>.

Now, lets select the operating system we want to install.  I have selected Windows Server 2012 with a GUI.  The other option is server core is a limited installation without GUI however with that server can be remotely managed. For now click next.

Eventually, we will see the screen prompting for entering a password for the built-in Administrator account as can be seen in the screenshot.

Now, click Finish.

Finally, we are now able to see the new Windows Login Screen, which is fairly different from the log in screen that we have been seeing in earlier versions of Windows Server.

Once we hit Ctrl – ALT – Delete to sign in, and enter password., we would be able to see the new Server Manager Screen which totally simplifies the administration and configuration of Windows server.

This is the fresh installation of Windows Server 2012. I will come up with a new blog post on moving forward. Stay tunned! 🙂

Getting Rid of Annoying Facebook Notifications

Facebook logo

Folks! the stuff I have brought for you this time is something which may not be of everyone’s concern. Yet, I personally feel that everyone of you who is reading this blog post do have a facebook account. Using a facebook has always been fun and informative as well but the notifications it gives always haunts me. Do you constantly have like 99 new notifications, marked with the little red button at the bottom right in your Facebook account? Would you like to only receive important notifications, such as comments from friends, and skip the stuff various applications send you? Teso bhaye read on.

This isn’t a new feature though, but I thought why simply endure thousands of notifications and updates from applications and pages when you don’t exactly want them. So, I believe, it’s a better idea to simply turn them off. Here are a couple of ways to do it.

Click on the red “Notifications” button at the bottom right corner in Facebook. Click on “See All.” On the right, you’ll see a long list of every application that sends you notifications, and you can turn them off by unchecking them. Be careful, Facebook’s own applications which are probably useful to you, such as feed comments, are also on the list, so you’ll probably want to leave them checked.

An screenshot of the notification panel which you can see when you click “See All”.

That’s all! Enjoy your fresh new, unnecessary notifications free Facebook.

Open/Save Microsoft Office 2007 documents in Office 2003

Are you using office 2003? Is your hardware incompatible to support Microsoft Office 2007? If it is the case, I am damn sure you are facing big problems when you are required to open and save files that are created in Office 2007 format.

But, don’t you worry folks, you have an easy solution only few clicks away. What you only need to do is to simply install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack in order to use 2007 Microsoft Office documents in Office XP, Office 2003, or Office 2000.

Remember, you may also be required to install additional updates to your Office programs if they have not already been installed.

When you are done with installing the Compatibility Pack, select an Office 2007 document( I have selected Word 2007) and simply right click it, now you have the new option in the scroll bar as in the screenshot below:
